The costs for day care for the hedgehog children are covered by the Munich Youth Welfare Office. Parents pay only one parental contribution, which depends on their place of residence.
Cost absorption for trauma pedagogy and trauma-centred specialist counselling
The assumption of costs for curative education treatment can be applied for at the local social welfare office for children of pre-school age and at the youth welfare office for school children.
A comprehensive diagnosis is a prerequisite in each case. Ultimately, however, this is sometimes a matter of negotiation (e.g. suffering after a bereavement).
For children of pre-school age, curative education is granted as integration assistance according to § 53 of the German Social Code (SGB) XII in conjunction with §§ 55,56 of the German Social
Code IX if there is a significant mental, physical or psychological disability or if the child is threatened by such a disability.
A detailed assessment by the paediatrician or a social paediatric centre is required for the application (supplemented, if necessary, by further findings from counselling centres and
therapists).
In the case of school children, curative education treatment is provided as integration assistance for mentally handicapped children and adolescents in accordance with § 35 a Para. 2 No. 1 Social
Code Book VIII.
The prerequisite is a specialist medical opinion from a child and youth psychiatrist, child and youth psychiatrist or a licensed child and youth psychotherapist. It is helpful if trauma has been
diagnosed or trauma education is explicitly recommended. Also, if a relationship with the trauma educator already exists, because relationship breakdowns are to be avoided in acute grief.
The legal basis for curative education measures are Social Codes VIII, IX and XII. The prerequisite for this is an application for the assumption of costs to the responsible social welfare office or youth welfare office, as well as, as a rule, a medical certificate from a child and youth psychiatrist or a child and youth psychotherapist. Before starting school, the responsible social welfare office is responsible, and after starting school, the responsible youth welfare office is responsible.
